Never Compare Yourself With Others

Just recently, I learnt a very great lesson while marking my students’ examination scripts.
There was this student who had “an extra script”; he was the first person with such script so I had adjusted myself to explore his writings.
Did I tell you how that I was not really happy with most of the scripts I had marked before I picked this particular one?

You know how students can sometimes make you feel; like you’ve done nothing even after you’ve laboured and had poured out yourself into them.
While I flipped over to the first page of his writings, I realized he had not written anything impressive. He had written so many “Irrelevancy” and had used many words to describe his “Nothingness”.
Indeed, the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep.

My pen, like the Spirit of God was hovering over the script just to get something tangible to at least settle with, but there was no where, no place at all; all was vanity; vanity upon vanity.
“Well, maybe he had written something better at the next page”, I thought to myself.
In curiosity, I opened to the following page. Guess what I saw…
He had used another page to further express his “Confusion” and this time around, maybe a Spirit ministered to him, he cancelled everything he had written and then collected an extra script.…

What was on the extra script “confused my confusion”.
In short, he had spent the entire time using his pen to just put up English alphabets on his papers.
So, I thought to myself; “You still the effrontery to collect extra script when you know that you had no understanding of what was asked?”
You could imagine how others felt when he requested for more scripts.
While someone was struggling to even exhaust the initial script given to them, another person was already asking for “extra”.

They must have assumed he had written meaningful things.
Someone else might have written relevant answers but then felt he or she was not doing enough because he or she saw his colleague getting more script.
It happens in examination hall too. Some people submit on time because they had nothing to write. When they stand to submit, everyone’s gaze is on them, wondering how he was able to finish that supposedly “difficult” course.

If only you know that Baba only submitted out frustration: “I cannot kill myself o”.
How many of us really go about running our races based on what we see others flaunt on their social media handles and other platforms?
How many people are currently depressed because, seeing what you ASSUMED other people are doing, you just felt you were not doing better at all; your life has been stagnant?
How many ladies just want to marry the kind of guy you saw with your close friend?

She always talks of how they just went Dubai and other places.
You see, I’m not saying everyone fakes being successful but I’m only here to preach that you should find rest for your soul.
That a man excels does not mean you will not; do not let someone’s achievements stop you from pursuing your own dreams.

If God is blessing your neighbour, it’s a sign that God is currently in your neighbourhood; your time will come.
Meanwhile, not everything you see is exactly the way they appear to be.
Not so many people really post their weaknesses and struggles. Don’t let someone’s Facebook pictures make you hate your own vision.
Some people only look like IT, they are not IT at all.

Just be yourself, put your trust in Jesus and ensure that you keep up at what you’re doing, God will surely come for you in due time.
I believe you have learnt something from my story.
