The world is made up of stories and reinforced by written or oral histories. Histories may be called the accounts of the past but in a miraculous way, histories repeat themselves over and over again. Some occurrences happen again in a decade somewhere different or same place while some happens in a thousand years.
If you remove the stories and histories told and retold by people past and living, the world will make no meaning. Not because we can not act and make more histories and write and create new histories but we will be lost for we will have no compass to guide us and direct our steps.
Such is the power of histories and stories that more than half of any philosophy or religion are made up of stories and histories of people past. Without such construct, no projections of gains and losses can be made and such ideology will have no followers or adherents.
But it’s all examples. Stories are examples. Histories are examples. They are examples to guide; to instruct; to foretell and in atimes give succour,courage and hope. Just like you come to understand the complex concepts in mathematics in high school by examples , you can understand your life and live a great one by examples too.
But not your own examples. That will be costly and even deadly. And if we are to wait to learn from other peoples experience, they will be myopic and tedious too. A shorter way is to read and read and read until the stories we read becomes ingrained in us that we can anticipate results before we act.
There are examples. Millions of them that if we are to truly read and listen to them we will live better ,think better and avoid unnecessary pain.Truly, the world is changing at a rapid rate that we can’t imagine but the more the changes the more things stay constant. The world keeps spinning on its axis irrespective of the technology advancement. Do not be deceived. The old lessons and stories are even more apt and applicable in this pace of dizzying changes.Live by examples.
