The greatest danger that exists in Christianity will be the CAUSE of the greatest battle that is now looming in the church of God.
That battle is approaching. And it is approaching rapidly!
First, what is the greatest danger that exists in Christianity? Let’s look at the answer in a roundabout way. Man’s greatest problem has ALWAYS been our inability to TRUST GOD completely. Yet, it is impossible to have ANY meaningful relationship with God without having this trust in Him. This trust is what the Bible calls FAITH, making it clear that “… without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please Him….” (Heb 11:6)

Indeed, God wants man to trust Him COMPLETELY with our lives. To trust Him TOTALLY. To trust Him IMPLICITLY. To trust Him EXPLICITLY. To trust Him even when it makes no sense to trust Him!
As a matter of fact, this is why Jesus came into the world! In addition to paying the penalty for our sins, Jesus also came to MODEL FOR US how to live in the world. How to live in ABSOLUTE TRUST in God, depending on Him for EVERYTHING at EVERY TIME.

Jesus declared this manifesto very clearly in John 5:19, “… “Truly, truly, I say to you, THE SON CAN DO NOTHING of his own accord, but ONLY what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” He reiterated this point using similar words in verse 30, “I CAN DO NOTHING ON MY OWN.…” Nothing….

This is the pattern of life that Jesus came to model for His followers. And following His steps in this model is what it means to ABIDE IN CHRIST. 1 JOHN 2:6 makes this point very clearly, “Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk IN THE SAME WAY in which he walked.” Please note those words – ‘IN THE SAME WAY’. This is the will of God for ALL believers.

A believer that does not ABIDE IN CHRIST in this way is simply ABIDING IN SELF! And John 15:1-8 outlines the disaster that awaits such a ‘believer’! For in this solemn passage, Jesus guided us into the same way that He walked. His words: “… without me ye can do nothing” (verse 5). Undoubtedly, Jesus wants us to walk in EXACTLY the same way that He walked.

Unfortunately, this truth, as simple as it sounds, is NOT clear to MOST believers. Thus, over 95% of the believers of today are simply following SELF – thinking they are following Christ! This is a problem that Jesus mentioned again and again in passages like Matt 7:21-23, 25:11-12; Luke 13:23-25, 6:46, etc.
With all the words of Jesus in these listed passages, do you see the POTENCY of this danger? Sadly, it is only on the Day of Judgment that many ‘believers’ will realise that they were NEVER truly followers of Christ on earth. They either simply deceived themselves; or, they allowed what we erroneously call ‘the church’ to deceive them. Whichever the case is, it will be TOO LATE for redemption! Because eternity would have dawned on them.

So, brothers and sisters, the GREATEST DANGER in Christianity lies in ‘following’ Jesus by going to church, keeping the commandments of God, praying, fasting, giving, evangelising, doing good works, etc, while ACTUALLY following SELF! While ACTUALLY living by the power and will of SELF! Subtle danger, but REAL DANGER!
So, what does this have to do with the imminent greatest battle in the church? Here is the explanation. But, first, a bit of background.
The greatest focus of heaven AT THIS TIME (if we can reverentially use this term), is to prepare the people of God for the imminent return of Christ. The return of Jesus will be the CROWNING GLORY of all the work of God in the salvation of mankind. A task that started right from Genesis 3:15, where God promised mankind a Messiah that would bruise the head of Satan.
The generation of believers that will herald this CROWNING GLORY is what God is raising TODAY! This will not be an ordinary generation of believers. They will be ‘SPECIAL’ in every sense of the word. The culmination of “… a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing….” A church that shall “… be holy and without blemish.” (Eph 5:27)

This generation of believers, in a sense, will NOT be like just every other generation of believers. Rather, they will be A PREPARED PEOPLE! A specially PREPARED people. It is for this reason that Jesus taught extensively on HOW TO PREPARE for His return.
Not only that. Apostle Peter also taught about HOW TO PREPARE for the return of Jesus. Apostle Paul too. As well as almost all the writers of the New Testament. In fact, the Holy Spirit warned us, through the pen of Apostle Paul, about the GREAT CHALLENGE that the last generation of believers will face – the FINAL ONSLAUGHT of Satan against the eternal plan of God on earth. We see this warning in 2 Timothy 3:1, “This know also, that in the last days PERILOUS TIMES shall come….”
In other words, the generation of believers that will live in the Last Days will face such PERILS that, perhaps, even the Apostles and the early church never faced! For whereas, they majorly faced A VISIBLE ENEMY that beat them, imprisoned them, burned them, and persecuted them in many forms, the end-time saints will face a very different type of enemy!

They will face an INVISIBLE ENEMY that will ‘kill’ them by EMBRACING THEM!!! An insidious enemy that ‘kills’ right from WITHIN the church! An enemy that lulls the believer into the cozy embrace of THE WORLD thru the instrumentality of SELF. This enemy has institutionalised a ‘Christianity’ that PROCLAIMS CHRIST with the mouth, but lives a life that is powered by SELF-opinion, SELF-interest, and SELF-will.
The prophecy in 2 Timothy 3:1 captures this trend perfectly, adding these poignant words in verse 2, “For people will be LOVERS OF SELF….” Thus, in being lovers of SELF and promoters of SELF, these ‘brethren’ will loathe to TRULY DENY SELF, and will NOT subject SELF to THE CROSS as instructed in Luke 9:23.

Rather, they will partly follow Jesus, and partly follow SELF! In the sight of God, this is equal to a COMPLETE FOLLOWERSHIP OF SELF!!! For Christ and SELF are travelling in opposite directions; and can, therefore, not be COMBINED in the same heart. Just as light and darkness can never co-habit.
Let’s backtrack a bit. Jesus modelled a particular form of life for believers to follow. A life that is 100% dependent on God IN ALL WAYS (John 5:19). A life that has no will of its own (John 5:30). A life that has no worldly resources of its own (Luke 14:33). Until a man understands all these, and willingly submits SELF to the gruesome work of THE CROSS, it is practically IMPOSSIBLE to live the ‘strange’ form of life that Jesus brought for mankind!
For it is a life that will be AFFLICTED with shame, pain, loss, ostracization, etc, through the work of THE CROSS (this is the ONLY path to divine fruitfulness – John 12:24). A life that IS NOTHING, and a life that HAS NOTHING – outside God. A life that ‘TAKES NO THOUGHT’ for itself as Jesus commanded in Matthew 6:25,31,34 (a commandment that sounds quite impracticable to MOST believers of today). A life of TRUE FAITH in God.
This is the type of RADICAL LIFE and RADICAL FAITH that God demands in this end-time to herald the return of His Son to the CROWNING GLORY of His assignment on earth.

But will God get such a set of COMPLETELY SOLD-OUT believers when Christ returns? Jesus Himself gave a cryptic response to this question in Luke 18:8, “… Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Well, we all know what Jesus was implying in this statement! He’ll BARELY find such faith on earth!!! And this is HOW it will happen. This is WHY Jesus will barely find faith among believers. This is the crux of the impending LAST BATTLE in the church of God.

In the coming days (as the Lord tarries), men will arise in the church of God to exponentially grow THE POWER OF HUMAN WISDOM/PHILOSOPHY among the people of God. They will elevate the POWER OF REASON over absolute faith in God.
Please note this. There is a reference to ‘the people of God’ in the above paragraph. This reference has NOTHING to do with the multitude of believers that are TRAPPED in the deception of the church system of today. (That is a separate issue on its own!) Rather, the reference here is to believers that have already COME OUT of the church system of today!
It is among this CALLED OUT believers that this FINAL BATTLE in the church of God will rage! This is just like when God CALLED OUT the children of Israel out of Egypt. It was not all the Israelites that came out of Egypt that eventually entered the Promised Land! There was a sifting/separation process (Jude 5). This is EXACTLY what is coming upon the church of God in the days ahead. Our ‘Jude 5’ experience is approaching!
Please pay close attention. In 2 Timothy 4:4, Apostle Paul warned of a period when believers will NOT ENDURE sound doctrines. Clearly, in that prophecy, Apostle Paul was not talking about believers that are TRAPPED/LOST in deception! For what sound doctrines are preached in deception anyway?

Rather, Paul was writing about believers that have seen the light. Believers that will be exposed to God’s genuine SOUND DOCTRINES, but who will NOT be able to bear the PAINFUL consequences of living by those sound doctrines. (Sound doctrines bring PAIN, this is why Paul used the word ‘ENDURE’).
Fortunately, Paul also told us WHY they’d not be able to endure the sound doctrines. It’s because they would still have PERSONAL LUSTS in their lives (that is, personal desires, personal opinions, personal perspectives, etc.) In short, believers that still have a SELF-life!!!
According to that prophecy, these believers will ‘heap to themselves’ teachers that will tell them what THEY want to hear. Please, wait right there, and THINK DEEPLY!!! From where will they get these teachers? Do you presume they’d get the teachers from RCCG, from Winners Church, Christ Embassy, and other false, denominational churches? Of course NOT! For these believers have already ESCAPED from the denominations.
So, it is clear that the ‘flexible’ teachers that will encourage the SELF-life among the people of God will come from within their midst! Right from the midst of the CALLED OUT ones!!! From those that claim to recognise the SUPREMACY of Christ among His people. Brethren, it is from this GENERAL ‘REMNANT’ that God’s TRUE REMNANT will emerge to herald the return of Christ!
But, for now, both camps are seemingly ‘united’ in the present battle against a common idol that is ENTRAPPING God’s people – the denominational system. When that battle gets to its zenith in God’s programme, this new, FINAL onslaught of Satan will commence/accelerate.

And that onslaught will be led by men and women of IMMENSE INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY & ACUMEN among the ‘called out’ assembly of God. A battle between FAITH and REASON. A battle between ‘DYING IN CHRIST’ and ‘FAINTING IN CHRIST’. A battle between SPIRIT and SELF.
This battle will be Satan’s last stand against THE CROSS that broke his stranglehold on mankind. And believers that do not understand THE CROSS, and embrace it JOYFULLY today will fall in that battle! Will perish at the edge of the ‘Promised Land’.
When this battle comes (and it will SURELY COME!), may we be found STANDING on the side of the Lord – TRULY watching and waiting for His glorious appearance. Amen.

“Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him AT ONCE when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes….” (Luke 12:35-37).
